DE VERE CARDEN PARK GOLF RESORTTwo excellent golf courses in a stunning setting with views in all directions. The consistently high quality of the greenkeeping, clubhouse facilities, and customer service sets a standard that is seldom matched. These courses host many club and championship tournaments - it is easy to see why! The Cheshire Course is perhaps the better of the two, with tree-lined fairways, excellent greens, traditional bunkers, and a few well positioned water hazards. The back nine is hillier and set into mature trees to create some memorable holes. |
The newer Nicklaus course is an American style course with USGA greens, sculpted fairways and many water hazards. It offers a tough challenge to any standard of golfer with large firm greens, multiple tee positions, and several routes to some of the greens. When we played the greens were in superb condition but the fairways were waterlogged as the USGA drainage was inadequate for a low lying course in a high rainfall area. |
The high handicapper will find the Cheshire Course hard and the Nicklaus Course slightly easier. They must concentrate on avoiding the hazards and playing for accuracy not length. The true greens will not stop long approach shots so expect to be chipping and putting. Look for the bogey routes to the greens and layup areas in many holes.

Cheshire 12th - good shot selection is needed from this par 4's elevated tee to the sloping green protected by two ponds.
Cheshire 14th - short (455 yards) par 5 but a turning uphill fairway to an elevated green with five deep bunkers in front.
Nicklaus 6th - par 4 forming a left dogleg around a lake. (17th is similar).
Nicklaus 7th - par 4 crossed by two streams and offering two distinct routes to the green. (15th is similar).
Recommended Handicap 28

"Two fine courses but avoid Nicklaus when wet." |
