The demanding 2nd hole - par 3 but 180m over waterISLANTILLA GOLF CLUB

Istantilla is on the European Tour circuit and is a challenging and very well maintained course in a fine setting with superb greens. The undulating terrain is well used with elevated tees and many blind shots on tree lined and sloping fairways. The views are only spoiled by the many building sites and working cranes.

The par 5 21st hole, a down hill drive into a left dogleg up to the green.A round will normally consist of one half of the front eighteen plus holes 19 to 27. Both 1 to 9 and 10 to 18 include some very hard holes requiring distance control and straight shooting, combined with sound tactics. The greens are fast and many have slopes into punishing rough if the green is missed.

The high handicapper may be nervous on some holes as fairways are often tree lined and narrow. The front eighteen includes some very hard holes but almost all the holes have a safe route to the excellent greens and can reward a conservative approach.

Holes Of Note:

3rd - a tight 272m par 4 on an exposed hillside with a small elevated green.

12th - 440m par five driving onto a right to left sloping hillside, before the uphill right dogleg approach to a small green set in trees. A nightmare of a hole.

21st - a straight tee shot onto the narrow down sloping fairway will need a good second shot to clear the dogleg and allow a pitch onto the elevated green.
