MIDDLESBROUGH GOLF CLUBTraditional parkland club course 4 miles south of Middlesbrough. The classic design by James Braid makes excellent use of the streams and undulating land. There are a number of memorable holes with six to eight making dramatic use of hills, mature trees, and immaculate greens.
The course is well used by club members so visitors are restricted to weekdays. As the course also hosts tournaments and welcomes visiting parties it is worth checking for these bookings before turning up. |
The twisting and undulating fairways are lined by mature trees, so requiring accuracy off the tee rather than length. The greens are receptive and were relatively slow on this occasion, but they are well bunkered. The wind is a factor on the exposed holes in the high part of the course. |
![]() The high handicapper should select shots that avoid the water hazards and deep rough on some of the holes. Some of the longer par 4's like 6 and 12 can be played as par fives with an iron off the tee. By playing conservatively, the fine condition of fairways and greens will contribute to a very enjoyable round of golf. |
6th - a longish tee shot on the left side will allow a second shot to the green on this right dogleg par 4 of 400 yards, bordered by trees and deep rough.
8th - lay up in front of stream across wide fairway for short iron up to green set in trees and immaculate shrubbery.
12th - an aggressive tee shot over the wasteland to the second tree offers a short iron or wedge to the green of this 412 yard par 4. Or aim for the first tree in the dogleg's knee.
Recommended Handicap 28
