NORTON GOLF COURSEA pay and play golf course on hills 4 miles north of Middlesbrough. Kept to a good standard considering the very high number of rounds played there each year, especially the contoured greens. Short but a tough test of golf when the wind blows. |
The beginner may find the hillsides punishing to a slice but straight driving makes most holes easily playable within handicap. The yardage charts and landscape features will guide a competent golfer to the greens. This is an exposed course that can be very windy - it is vital to allow for this in club selection. The layout can be confusing on the first visit, especially on the 11th hole. The greens can hold rain whilst fairways are drier, and so some greens can be a little rough in Spring due to heavy usage. |
5th - par 4 needing a 200 yard drive across hillside to tree and bunker for reachable second to green.
14th - short par 3 across hillside to the long narrow green with sharp drop-off to right.
15th - 220 yard par 4 over trees to green protected by bunkers and water, choose a risky birdie or a safe par.
Recommended Handicap 28
