SCARBOROUGH NORTH CLIFF GC A very good golf course that combines 5 reasonable cliff top holes with 13 very good tree lined parkland holes as it goes
inland. Wind is always a factor but very few holes play directly into the prevailing sea winds. The course has been carefully updated from the original James Braid design with a new par 3 11th hole and clever touches like the well placed bunkers on the fourth fairway. The course was in fine condition with superb greens. |
The fairways are well defined by the trees and are reasonably wide. You can use a driver on most holes but be prepared for restricted back swing if you go into the trees. There are very few water hazards and the bunkers are parkland style rather than the pot bunkers of a links course. The greens reward good putting but are firm and fast so land approaches short and allow for run.The high handicapper will find the shortness of the course helpful but the quick and subtly contoured greens may frustrate. Keep the ball low by using 'bump and run' shots like chipping with mid irons.
Holes Of Note:
4th - elevated tee shot requiring accuracy for a driver to avoid the new fairway bunkers.
7th - 150 yard uphill par 3 generally into wind, well bunkered with steep run-offs front and right.
12th - right dog leg par 4 where bunkers await straight or faded drives. The green is elevated with steep left run-off.
Recommended Handicap 22
