VALE DO LOBO OCEAN COURSEBeautifully maintained European Tour venue which matches fine ocean views and Mediterrainean trees with a very well designed course. With the Royal course and the premium resort at Vale Do Lobo it is hard not to be impressed as a visitor. This is worth playing if you are visiting the Algarve. The fairways are firm and well maintained but are hilly and often slope. The greens were in excellent condition but are very firm and very fast. They will test your chipping and putting. |
About half of the holes from the Ocean Course were used in the recent Algarve Open. If you saw this on Sky you will know how hilly the course is.The par 3 sixth hole is the signature hole on a cliff top position over a sandy beach. Into the wind it plays all of its 190 metres. |
The high handicapper will enjoy playing a Tour course. But please be warned that the rough is quite thick and the hills make for sloping lies if you are on the fairway. The firm fast greens will test your nerves but they are true.Generally the course relies upon trees and rough to punish wayward shots. However water features prominently on several holes, notably the short par 5 15th hole. |
2nd - longish par 4 needing a good drive over the hill to set up approach to green with sea behind.
13th - long par 4 dogleg uphill to small green.
15th - short par 5 with water down right and tesing approach to the bunkered green.
Recommended Handicap 22
