The seventh tee at Whitby overlooks a wide ravine.WHITBY GOLF CLUB
Traditional links course set on land over the North Yorkshire coast, using its cliffs and a wide ravines to good effect. The elevated tees and cambered fairways offer challenges in approaching the smaller greens. The coastal winds can be 4 or 5 clubs and deserve respect from any visiting golfer.

The fifth green is one of many well kept greens, even in winter. The course was in good condition with dry fairways and quite fast greens. There was enough moisture in the greens to stop a good approach shot but this varied between the coastal and inland sections of the course, suggesting summer will be harder.

The high handicapper should recognise the challenges in every shot. Tee shots over the ravines must emphasise accuracy over distance but many shots will require thought about the next shot. The course plan should help to identify potential hazards.

Holes Of Note:

5th - par 4 over cliffs leading to a long second onto a bunkered green.

8th - short downhill par 4 to a green protected by a pond in front and bunkers.

Recommended Handicap 28
