WILTON GOLF CLUBShortish tree lined golf course with small greens, split into two halves of hill and flat parkland. The chemical plant below spoils the view but otherwise a good golfing experience, albeit some tiring walking. NB follow signs for "Wilton Castle." |
The fairways are wide and encourage the long tee shots needed to shorten approach shots to the small greens. The hilly holes (1-8 and 18) can be too much, e.g. the severely sloping 2nd fairway where almost any tee shot ends up in the right rough at the bottom of the hillside. The high handicapper must identify landing areas and targets to ensure hitting their fairway. The firm fairways are quite wide and shots will roll on after landing. The small firm greens will not hold mid and long irons.
Holes Of Note:
2nd - par 4 with dramatic left to right slope taking tee shots right.
5th - par 5 requiring 2 long accurate shots to allow pitch to small green.
17th - par 4 aim for centre fairway to avoid green being blocked by trees.
Recommended Handicap 28
