Todays Golfer Todays Golfer on the Magazine Channel (Sky digital channel 208) is quite watchable. It follows a reliable formula: send teaching pro to a top course with some improving golfers and film the results.

I like Cook's easy style and the straight forward approach he takes to the technical parts of the game. If you've read or seen any of David Leadbetter's coaching you'll appreciate what I mean here.

The sections of each programme follow the blocks that Today's Golfer magazine uses in its game improvement articles. The video format is good on most bits and the improving golfers' faults are probably familiar to most of us. By breaking the guidance into 20 minute chunks, there is a sense of having to see every episode but that's not very likely really.

A good test of any coaching is whether you feel the urge to practice afterwards. I think Cook's style succeeds here and liked his sign off, "I only hope I haven't made the game too easy for you."

If you like this diagnosis and treatment style, I suggest reading "Butch Harmon's Golfing lessons" where the great coach takes three imaginary players around eighteen of the top holes in the USA.
